Drew & Josh from Merced High School’s Interact Club came and briefed Sunrise Rotarians on Winter Wishes. Which is a program made possible by Interact Club members who inquire the wishes of their peers and try to make them come true. Some range from a hug to a pair of new shoes. Whatever the request is, they try to fulfill it.
Merced Sunrise Rotary also pinned and welcomed a new member of Sunrise Rotary, Bob.

Loren Gonella of Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty provided an update on the housing market. In California, the median sales price for a house is $565, 330, housing affordability is at 29%. Locally there is 2.7 months of inventory to sell and the median sales price is $239,900. The average home for sale, has 5 offers on the home. People are hanging onto their home and not moving at an average rate of 11 years.

Program
Mark Hendrickson, the Merced County Economic Development Director gave an update on the Castle Development Strategic Plan. Castle closed in 1995; in December 2006 Merced County assumed management. The County has worked to define the regions competitive position to attract investment. Different tasks that have been completed were to assess the condition of Castle’s infrastructure, define potential market offers and develop prospects. The County of Merced wants Castle to be a place where things are built and manufactured. They have signed an agreement with the Port of Los Angeles and Burlington Railroad.

Program
Joe Pruzzo, Executive Director of the Castle Air Museum visited Sunrise to give an update. Castle Air Museum started in 1979, is home to 72 aircraft and has one of two presidential aircraft in the country, it’s the largest air museum on the west coast. Their source of funding is donations, open cockpit day, car show, monetary donations and in kind donations. Volunteers are at the museum 3 days per week, however the museum is in need of tour guides and docents.
Castle Air Museum has a goal of opening a museum display hangar of 80,000 sqft.
